Green onions are by far one of the easiest to grow from scraps! They can be used in any recipes calling for onions, ground into onion powder, or harvested for oils. Plus, they can grow quite large if given space and time!
1. When you use your next green onion for cooking, make sure you leave the bottom inch or two (the root end with the white coloration).
2. Simply stick the root end into soil, buried about 0.5 inches to 1 inch deep in the dirt. Water immediately.
3. Water regularly. Be careful not to over water or drown the plant. However, make sure the soil around the plant is kept moist.
4. Within about a week, you'll see new green growth! As the shoots grow up, you have a new and constant supply of green onion shoots!
